ShareASale. A large network offering things like Genesis (here’s why I use Genesis for my WordPress theme), Tasty Pins (the Pinterest plugin for bloggers), Minted (invitations, calendars, gifts), eShakti (reasonably priced custom made clothes).
Many other major brands that use affiliate marketing take a similar approach and let one of the big networks do the heavy lifting for them: see DirecTV (CJ), Best Buy (LinkShare), and Overstock (LinkShare).
You know, you’ll probably learn a lot about the merchant side of things if you just pay attention to what the merchants you represent are doing. What kinds of support they give you, how they follow up, what software they use, etc.
For example, my audience is made up of people who want to start a blog and make money online but have limited time, budget and technical know-how. I can speak to this audience because that was me when I started 14 years ago!
Amazon is one of the hottest markets online for affiliate marketers. Amazon is the giant online with a seemingly limitless product range, which is great for us, you can pretty much type in anything and you’ll find the product your looking for…usually cheaper than anywhere else. This book will teach you everything you need to know to get up and running quickly and how to fully tweak your Amazon affiliate business to it’s fullest potential.
When it comes to passive income I’m a newbie, but want to expand and make it my sole source of income. This book is easy to follow and gives you a clear understanding of each topic. My next step is to start a blog but I knew almost nothing about it, other than it was a sort of online journal. My eyes were opened to what blogging really is and it’s crazy potential. I plan to implement all of them one by one to build my stream of income. This book has given me the steps to do so.
Another related tip is that when you’re writing a product review and Amazon has a listed discount – include a note about the discount. For example, in this recent photography book review I link at the bottom to Amazon and note that it is currently 36% off.
Low Level Affiliates: Focuses on pockets of profit around the web. He ignores economies of scale in favour of high margin campaigns on smaller traffic sources that tend to be extremely volatile. Examples include POF dating campaigns, small scale Facebook Ads, Juicy Ad buys.
Half of this book is about affiliate marketing, and the other half is about selling things on ebay, making videos for youtube, etc and has nothing to do with affiliate marketing. Go elsewhere to learn about AFFILIATE marketing…….”waste of money this book is” Yoda

Is it necessary to have a blog website? What if I wanted to create a straight up e-commerce site selling products from major retail outlets. A website that rewards with discounts or other special promos just for buying through our affiliate site.
Ask around. In my experience, if you establish a good relationship with other content creators (and especially if you are giving more than you are taking in that relationship), over time, most are more than willing to share tips and hints about what has and has not worked for them. A mastermind group is also a great place to get ideas.
In this post, we’ve highlighted the importance of competitive affiliate program rates. In addition, we’ve provided you with a breakdown of steps for determining affiliate commission rates. To quickly recap:
That was partly due to increasing traffic. It was partly due to my regular inclusion of affiliate links in my posts. I don’t promote Amazon in every post but in an average week I’d say I link to Amazon in at least 4-5 posts. That adds up to 200-250 posts per year and around over 2000 posts in the last 10 years.
I was planning to start but not getting proper mentor but your article inspired me to do right away. So i contacted few of affiliated sites. lets see… what going on next… thanks for sharing this article with us.
Affiliate marketing is facilitated by “affiliate links” that allow merchants to track where their customers originate. In other words, it’s possible (and actually very simple) to know which revenue came from a specific affiliate and to compensate that affiliate accordingly.
I’m a RevGlue.com affiliate. I have to admit, I hardly make anything from affiliate marketing off of my blog directly. I do expect this to go up over time, especially as my organic rankings increase (search engine traffic only accounts for about 1/3 of my visits) as my old review posts don’t get much traffic on their own.
Ask for special discounts or coupons. Many times affiliate managers are happy to create special coupons just for your readers. Not only is a unique coupon another way to track the effectiveness of your affiliate sales, it’s also another reason to share your affiliate link with your audience. Plus, who doesn’t love a discount?
Websites consisting mostly of affiliate links have previously held a negative reputation for underdelivering quality content. In 2005 there were active changes made by Google, where certain websites were labeled as “thin affiliates”.[30] Such websites were either removed from Google’s index or were relocated within the results page (i.e., moved from the top-most results to a lower position). To avoid this categorization, affiliate marketer webmasters must create quality content on their websites that distinguishes their work from the work of spammers or banner farms, which only contain links leading to merchant sites.
There’s a link for “Grammarly” that i have on my blog, for example, which (quite frankly) I had forgotten about. That is, until I suddenly received over $150 earlier this year seemingly out of the blue. This followed again with another $100 a few months later.

Affiliate Marketing Secrets
I am so very glad I found this website and read this post. I am so inexperienced in all this, but I do see that you take a totally different approach to the many others I have read. It is so refreshing. I will go back reread, study and apply.
Many merchants will still give credit for this sale to the affiliate, even though the visitor came directly to the site and not through an affiliate link when they completed their purchase. This is a fair solution in many cases, since many customers take time to make a decision and commit to a purchase. In the scenario above, the affiliate still provided a valuable service to the merchant–getting the customer to their site–and deserves to be compensated for that.
Hard to stand out. Some affiliate programs have LOTS of affiliates. If there’s a promotion going on, it can be hard to separate yourself from the other affiliates so people buy through you and not others.
In November 1994, CDNow launched its BuyWeb program. CDNow had the idea that music-oriented websites could review or list albums on their pages that their visitors might be interested in purchasing. These websites could also offer a link that would take visitors directly to CDNow to purchase the albums. The idea for remote purchasing originally arose from conversations with music label Geffen Records in the fall of 1994. The management at Geffen wanted to sell its artists’ CD’s directly from its website but did not want to implement this capability itself. Geffen asked CDNow if it could design a program where CDNow would handle the order fulfillment. Geffen realized that CDNow could link directly from the artist on its website to Geffen’s website, bypassing the CDNow home page and going directly to an artist’s music page.[10]
I absolutely love your post about Affiliate Marketing for Beginners: How to Make Your First Affiliate Marketing Sale in 7 Steps. Over the years I have found that people put too much emphasis on “how to make more sales” versus teaching techniques as to how a beginner can make their first sale . Understanding how to make that first sale is key.
Wow! Thank you for such a complete description of affiliate marketing. I just started casually blogging a few months ago and your post gives me a great view into just how much work is involved if I’m going to successfully monetize my blog. I just shared a short post titled “A Blogger’s Nightmare – 0 Active Users” commenting on having blog traffic…I definitely see that there’s a lot more involved! Thanks again.
Pick a niche you are passionate about, and confirm other people are passionate about it. the best way to do this is to type the main keyword of your niche into Amazon’s search box. If you see dozens and hundreds of products related to your niche (with lots of product reviews) it’s typically a good niche to get into.
