Amazon gives publishers a lot of these type banners or widgets but despite trying almost all of them, I had little or no success with using them. Instead – 99% of my conversions have come from links to Amazon from within blog posts about the products themselves.
A question: A blogroll with some quality produkt affiliate links can really bring in more revenue as a banner on the same position? I think that this has something to do with people don`t really like it anymore to click on banners and also on the rise of adblockers, right?
Indeed, Amazon has really made a lot of people rich via their popular affiliate program, but as you rightly said, it also comes with a lot of limitations. I generally love and agree with the idea of having different monetization strategies instead of focusing only on Amazon, in case something goes wrong.
Some commentators originally suggested that affiliate links work best in the context of the information contained within the website itself. For instance, if a website contains information pertaining to publishing a website, an affiliate link leading to a merchant’s internet service provider (ISP) within that website’s content would be appropriate. If a website contains information pertaining to sports, an affiliate link leading to a sporting goods website may work well within the context of the articles and information about sports. The goal, in this case, is to publish quality information on the website and provide context-oriented links to related merchant’s websites.

For me sine my blog is about travel i just mention where I stayed or what hotel and if I liked it and I recommend it I put an affiliate link.
In the screen capture above you can see that when you go past 6 items referred, you move from a 4% commission to a 6% commission. If you keep referring more, the commission increases. The only category of product not included in this is consumer electronics (frustrating for a camera guy!).
Whats getting me is the first time around. This is all knew, so the learning terminology and apply the meaning of those words. The different tools, adword traffic travis, and CONTENT, OMG. Thank God for check spelling even though I still have Webster next to me.
People want to hear from other people when making a decision to buy a product or not — that’s why the reviews on Amazon products are so powerful. Those reviews are genuine feedback from people who (usually) have absolutely nothing to gain if someone buys that product or not.
A two-tier affiliate program is an affiliate model that allows you to make commissions not only on your own sales but the sales from others (your sub-affiliates) that you refer to the program… (more…)
But that doesn’t need to be the case. Affiliate marketing is one of the most cost efficient marketing channels, provided that margins are properly managed. Here are four points to consider when determining your ideal commission structure.
So I began to add to the mix of content on the site with more articles relevant to people buying a digital camera. I wrote tips with advice on buying cameras, reviews of digital cameras and equipment etc. This culminated in a whole new section devoted to ‘cameras and gear‘.
Websites and services based on Web 2.0 concepts—blogging and interactive online communities, for example—have impacted the affiliate marketing world as well. These platforms allow improved communication between merchants and affiliates. Web 2.0 platforms have also opened affiliate marketing channels to personal bloggers, writers, and independent website owners. Contextual ads allow publishers with lower levels of web traffic to place affiliate ads on websites.[citation needed]
This guide covers affiliate marketing, including an introduction to this monetization technique, a review of the most popular implementations of affiliate marketing, and highlights of the top affiliate ad networks.

A really cool WordPress plugin you can try out is the new Amazon Related Products plugin ( I don’t have any affiliation with the plugin or author). It’s a seriously cool plugin to have if you don’t have time to manually link to Amazon products.
Good comment Jason, at some time in the future Amazon may decide they have so much market share they don’t need affiliates anyway. I mean, if you’re just sending them people who are already Amazon customers there’s not so much benefit there for them. Or they may decide to only work with select HIGH QUALITY affiliates and the average “affiliate site” owner will not be chosen.
For example, if you routinely talk about grilling meat, recommending your favorite butcher knife is probably a natural fit. If, however, you talk about landscape design, your favorite butcher knife is probably not a natural fit.
Promote products relevant to your niche. Be a student of your niche. Listen to what others talk about. Note problems people have or holes that need filling. Find products that will help. Buy them. Use them. Recommend the best.
When I post an article announcing a new camera I always check Amazon first to see if they’ve already created a page for that product. If they have, I make sure to mention that the product is already available for pre-ordering on Amazon.

Affiliate marketing is one of the most popular monetization techniques for niche publishers in 2014, being used by hundreds of thousands of sites in a wide variety of verticals. Affiliate marketing is popular for a number of reasons, including the potential for success with a relatively small audience and the deep pool of affiliate partners willing to pay to acquire new customers.
Look for a gravity score of 30 or more, because these products have a proven track record of selling well for a number of different affiliates. Products, especially new products, with gravity scores under 30 may work but are more risky. Gravity scores of greater than 100 mean the product’s popular. You could have competition, but don’t worry about that. The important thing is that there’s lots of demand.
A cookie is a technology that works with web browsers to store information like user preferences, login or registration information, and shopping cart contents. Have you ever opted-in to have a website “remember” your password and username for one of your online accounts? That’s a cookie. Ever notice while searching the web for “travel deals” and you suddenly start seeing travel display banners on other websites? Those ads are appearing for you because you’ve been cookied (it’s okay, you won’t get hurt).
Great post , I do read a lot of the Nichehacks articles and this one is so true. At the moment I am in a niche I’m passionate about and yes although I am primarily using Amazon to monetize my site, I will be branching out to use other methods very soon. It frightens me to think the plug can be pulled at any time! I intent to use other affiliate programs as well as Amazon, maybe Google Adsense, I’m not sure yet, some digital products and also to build an email list.
As with many aspects of Web monetization, the exact strategies will vary from site to site. There’s no universally superior affiliate marketing offer or merchant. There are, however, some general guidelines on factors to consider when evaluating potential affiliate marketing offers. We’ll dive into several of these below. We’re using screenshots from ShareASale throughout this article to illustrate the process, but the tasks and terms will be generally similar across the major affiliate marketing networks.
